1. Nami asked that the two sides are treated equally
Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Duzen (25.10.13) reports that self-styled minister of foreign affairs Ozdil Nami, in statements to “TAK”, said that within the framework of his visit to Strasbourg met apart from Stefan Fule, EU Commissioner Responsible for the Enlargement, with Hannes Swoboda, President of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Daniel Cohn-Benditt, Chairman of the Green Group, Graham Watson, President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats Group for Europe and Liberal Democrat Member of the European Parliament, Baroness Sarah Ludford, Liberal Democrat Member of the European Parliament and Vice-Chair of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Group, Elmar Brok, Chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee. Nami also met with the Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament Miguel Angel Martinez, Alejo Vidal-Quadras and Laszlo Surjani.
Noting that during his meetings he observed an increased interest for the Cyprus problem, Nami said that during the meetings, he asked that Turkish and Greek Cypriots are treated equally, adding that this view was accepted positively. He also said that the EU exerts the opinion that the Cyprus talks should be resumed under the mission of good office of the UN.
Nami also noted that the issue of their representation in the EU Parliament was brought into the agenda again, reminding that they were promised that the issue would be discussed before the end of this year. He added that during the meetings they discussed the difficulties of the EU’s Green Line and Financial Aid Regulations and what they should do regarding these regulations.
2. Eroglu accused the Greek Cypriot side of prolonging the negotiation process
Turkish Cypriot daily Star Kibris (25.10.13) reports that during a meeting with a delegation headed by the Mayor of the German town Kandel, Gunther Tieleborger , Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu accused the Greek Cypriot side of prolonging the negotiation process, claiming that they also see the Turkish Cypriot side as the one, which has to be compelled for an agreement. Eroglu also explained them his views on the Cyprus problem.
Gunther Tieleborger, on his part, said that they liked very much the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus and they want to become twinning towns with a “municipality”.
3. Tore asked the resignation of Nami
According to Turkish Cypriot daily Kibrisli (25.10.13), the so-called deputy with the Democratic Party (DP) Zorlu Tore, addressing the “TRNC assembly”, commented on the meetings of Ozdil Nami, self-styled foreign minister of the breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, with the Greek Cypriot negotiator, Andreas Mavroyiannis by claiming that the interlocutor of Mavroyiannis is Osman Ertug and the interlocutor of Nami is Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides.
Tore wondered on behalf of whom, Nami met with Mavroyiannis. He added Nami met Mavroyiannis on behalf of the “government”, the “state” or the former Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat. He argued that these meetings were unacceptable and asked for the resignation of Nami.
4. Trade Union Platform asked Yorgancioglu to cancel the Economic Protocol signed with Turkey
Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (25.10.13) reports that a delegation of Trade Union Platform held a meeting with the self-styled prime minister Ozkan Yorgancioglu and demanded the cancelation of the Economic Protocol signed with Turkey.
According to the paper, the platform issued a 24 article petition asking for the cancelation of the protocol. Speaking in the name of the delegation, chairman of the Turk-Sen Trade Union, Aslan Bicakli, said that they went to the “elections” with the aim the Turkish Cypriot community to stand on its feed and to administrate itself; however the Republican Turkish Party- Democratic Party “collation government’s” activities made them long for the activities of the National Unity Party’s “government”.
5. Protest against the use of violence by the self-styled police
Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika newspaper (25.10.13) reports that the Baraka Cultural Association protested against the use of violence by the so-called police.
Members of Baraka, who protested in front of the “courts” in the occupied part of Lefkosia, stated that despite complaining against the use of violence by the “police”, no measures were taken on the issue.
6. The Illumination Committee of occupied Pentadaktylos asked from the self-styled prime ministry to pay the illumination bill
Under the title “The bill for the flag to the people”, Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika newspaper (25.10.13) reports that the “TRNC Besparmak Mountains Illumination Committee" visited the self-styled prime minister Ozkan Yorgancioglu and demanded that the electricity bill of the Pentadaktylos Mountains illumination to be paid by the “prime ministry”, as was the case until today.
The Association also asked the VAT of the paint used for painting the flag to be paid by the “prime ministry” as well.
7. Talat supports “Turkish Cypriot football Association” meeting with COP in Zurich
Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (25.10.13) reports that the former Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat expressed his support as regards the forthcoming November 5 meeting between the Cyprus Football Association (COP) and the “Turkish Cypriot Football Association” which will meet in Zurich.
Talat wished that a solution come out of the meeting adding that the Turkish Cypriots need confidence or spirits at this time and if a solution comes out of the Zurich meeting will help the “people” a lot.
In addition the paper also writes that leftists organizations support the meeting while rightists area against it.
8. Babacan: Turkey 'insistent' on EU process, needs EU to 'further develop' democracy
Ankara Anatolia news agency (24.10.13) reported that Turkish Deputy PM Ali Babacan said that one or two EU countries stir up trouble for Turkey's full membership process each year, but Turkey is insistent on the EU process.
"Turkey still needs the EU to further develop its democracy," Babacan said while noting Turkey's progress in its EU membership process while attending "US-Turkey Investment Week" in Seattle, United States. "On behalf of developing democratic rights, the EU membership is beneficial for us despite its recent economic crisis”, he added.
Stressing the EU's changing point of view on Turkey, the deputy PM said, "Turkey was a burden for the EU 15-20 years ago, but now Turkey is of great value for the EU." Babacan also said that Turkey's rapidly growing economy stemmed from the changes in its economic structure. The Turkish Minister indicated that the reforms helped Turkey to become a "first class" economy.
9. Yildiz: Foreign governments consult Turkey on the energy market
Turkish daily Today’s Zaman newspaper (24.10.13) reported that Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz boasted of the steps Turkey has taken in recent years in the area of liberalization and regulation of the energy market, saying some countries get advice from Turkey at a top level on the issue.
“Some of our general managers have been acting as advisors to the prime ministers of some countries,” he said
Stressing the importance of the liberalization of the local energy market, which also paves the way for attracting foreign investors, while at the same time introducing necessary regulations, at the 6th International Energy Congress in Ankara the Minister said, “A lot of countries ask us today to carry out a study in what measure the Turkish model can be applied to them.”
Speaking at the congress, organized by the Ankara-based Global Energy Association, Yildiz underlined the importance of meeting with local sources the energy needs of the country, which amounts annually to an equivalent of 114 million tons of oil.
